What is Occupational Therapy?
“Occupations”: -Something you need to, want to, and is expected to do. Doings that naturally occupy your time. It could be cooking, playing board games, driving, running, sleeping, sex, smoking. All meaningful and purposeful to life.
Now that we know what occupations are, let us define what occupational therapy is.
Every Occupational Therapist will tell you that occupational therapy can be defined in so many ways. However, it is a client-centered health profession that involves ongoing assessment to understand what activities an individual is able to engage in (and those he/she want to engage in), current limitation, goals and also to enable the individual engage in those meaningful activities. It is an evidence-based practice that is deeply rooted in science. It takes a holistic perspective by adapting the task and environment to fit the individual. It is important to mention that the client (individual) is an integral part of the therapy team and must be always consulted.
